Israel Now @ MACRO Testaccio (2013)

Exhibition design project, in collaboration with Arch. J. Orvieto (Completed)
Rome, Italy

Israel Now - Reinventing the Future is one of the most important contemporary art exhibitions focusing on Israel in Europe during 2013: a cross cultural multidisciplinary platform, able to reflect the dynamism of a culture that grounds its roots in a millenial spirituality. Five hundred years ago the MaHaRaL of Prague, highest father of Eastern Europe Jewish Mystique, asserted that a man is like an upside down tree. Its roots are directed to the sky toward spirituality, while its branches are well set down on the ground, meaning that a man's thought must look to the spirit, but his actions must be well-established in real life. The pavillions that host this exposition, converted from a slaughterhouse to an exhibition space, led us to think to overturn the point of view: yesterday animals were hung on the rails, today we hung drip irrigation pipes. A metaphor that, at the same time, combines one of the most famous symbols of Israeli advanced technology with the certainty that art can be precious sap for human spirit. Light, substituting water as life source, becomes the principal vector of the exhibited art piece.
